June 26, 2020
Dear MSHHRA Members,
After careful consideration, much discussion, and with heavy hearts, the MSHHRA board has voted to dissolve the Maine Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (MSHHRA) by the
end of 2020.
To survive and thrive, MSHHRA needs HR members to have the enthusiasm and commitment to assume leadership and board roles, and this has not risen to the top of members’ priorities. Over the past few years membership and attendance at educational sessions has remained low. Given both the national and local membership opportunities, MSHHRA has not been able to carve out and sustain its niche.
We realize and commiserate with everyone during this COVID-19 crisis; we know you are all out straight doing the very best for patients, staff and the community. We hope that once we can all catch our breaths, that we will be able to plan and hold the following meetings in 2020:
- June 30: Our current plan is to hold the postponed March meeting on June 30 at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. Our March presenter, Graciela Ramos, has graciously agreed to present “Exploring Employee Engagement Surveys.” More details will be confirmed as soon as possible.
- September 24-25: NOTE—SADLY, THIS EVENT HAS NOW BEEN CANCELLED due to the Maine State of emergency guidelines for group sizes and social distancing. The MSHHRA 2020 Conference, at the Sebasco Harbor Resort in Phippsburg, ME remains scheduled. More information and the program brochure will be released shortly.
- NOTE, May 11-15: The Maine HR Convention, will still be held, but only as a virtual event. Please visit their website for more details.
These are challenging times, especially for those in Human Resources, but our healthcare staff look to us to provide clear guidance and leadership with grace and composure. Going forward, with the network we have created and continue to build, both nationally and locally, we will continue to grow and provide leadership to the people function in our organizations – serving our employees who serve our patients, families and communities so well.
